Infection control hatch is introduced as pods are used for lateral flow testing

covid infection control hatchAs the Prime Minister announced that care home residents can be visited indoors from 8th March, our visitor pods were suddenly in demand for a very different reason.

For nine months, our visitor pods have been used at care homes and NHS hospital ward sites across the UK to facilitate visits to residents from families and friends. This continues to be the case with new visitor pod requests being fulfilled every week.

However, with the Prime Minister announcing that residents can receive indoor visits from a single, named individual from 8th March, the versatility of 91ÑÇÉ«´«Ã½â€™s visitor pods was apparent when orders started to come through for pods to be used as testing facilities in the grounds of care homes.

In addition to wearing full PPE, every visitor who enters a care home is required to be tested for Covid before entry. One of our clients, Hampshire County Council, consequently committed to 14 of our compact visiting pods to be used purely for lateral flow testing of visitors on arrival at some of their adult care facilities across the county.

To enable lateral flow testing to take place safely, our 3m x 2m dual room compact pods have been modified to incorporate a small, infection control hatch within the full length glass partition. This enables the swab sample to be passed safely between a care home test operative and a visitor, with the benefit of being in separate rooms while the testing process is undertaken.

Suitable for small external spaces, our compact pods are proving to be ideal for care homes which are limited on indoor space to carry out their visitor testing. They also provide peace of mind by ensuring that visitors are tested before they enter the premises in a completely separate space. Equipped with lighting and electrical supply, the compact pods are also fitted with non-slip wood effect vinyl flooring along with easy to clean surfaces, providing robust infection control measures. Wheelchair accessible ramps are installed at both entrances, with lockable doors also provided.
