Helping the planet, one exhibition at a time

The exhibition industry has been known to adversely impact the environment due to the many operations that surround this sector.

For example, it was found that in the UK alone, more than 60,000 tonnes of waste are produced each year as a result of exhibition events*. In order to combat this daunting figure, it is vital that decisions regarding the environmental status of an event are made during the early planning stages of an exhibition.

Showplace is proud to uphold various standards regarding sustainability in order to maintain eco-friendly practices throughout the planning of an indoor exhibition stand, from initial idea development to final project delivery.

The structure of 91ÑÇÉ«´«Ã½â€™s exhibition stands consists of aluminium frames which are 100% reusable and recyclable. This is not only cost-effective for the client, but also results in a positive environmental impact through waste reduction.

Printed, branded tension fabric graphics are then applied to the framework to bring the exhibition stand to life and can be washed and re-used multiple times for different events. Each graphic is compiled of polyester which has the potential to be recycled into various products from polyester yarn to pieces of furniture, creating a circular economy.

The production process for the graphics consists of naturally degradable fibres and water-based coatings which are free of solvents, antimony halides, formaldehyde, bromine compounds and heavy metals. Furthermore, the waterbed nature of the coatings means that the fabrics can be printed using water-based dye sublimation inks. This ultimately leads to a minimised negative impact on the environment as there are no VOC gases produced or released during the printing process.

Finally, regarding the transportation of the graphics, their lightweight nature means that they can be transferred into smaller boxes. This results in a smoother transport process and helps to further minimise Showplace’s carbon footprint.

Showplace has been creating and building stunning designs for indoor exhibitions, events and conferences for over 30 years. Environmentally friendly practices are incorporated into all possible areas of the production process, and we hope to expand further on sustainable endeavours in the future.
