Care home residents thrilled to see family again thanks to visitor pods

Swimbridge House Nursing Home in Devon is just one of many care homes across the UK which is enabling residents to see family and friends again, thanks to 91ÑÇÉ«´«Ã½â€™s contained visitor areas.

In normal circumstances, Showplace provides premium quality event buildings and exhibition trailers to household brands at some of the most prestigious events across the UK and Europe. However, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have put our temporary structures to great use by deploying a range of modular buildings and exhibition trailers for longer-term applications within the care sector. Using our MODA structures to provide quality external visiting rooms at care homes, has provided a lifeline for many families who have been separated from their loved ones for more than three months.

Until recently, communication between care home residents and their families and friends had been limited to video and telephone calls. Although these calls have ensured contact has been maintained, they don’t come close to being face to face with loved ones. When using the visitor rooms, residents can be separated from their visitors by a thin, robust perspex or glass panel with two-way intercom provision if required. The partition is an optional feature, with opting for a partition free structure, which is more than large enough to meet social distancing guidelines. All visits are booked in advance and thorough cleaning of the area is undertaken after every visit to ensure the safety of all users.

Dr Joost Van Delft, owner of Swimbridge House Nursing Home, enthuses, “Swimbridge House Nursing Home is slowly opening to families and friends of our residents, with visits now possible by appointment. To enable visitors to safely meet with our residents in poor weather conditions, 91ÑÇÉ«´«Ã½ has installed a temporary ‘visitor centre’ in our garden. The premium quality structure is unlike typical tents and marquees. It has two doors, glass sides and themed interior walls. It has been a real joy to see families reunited after being apart for so long, and it has brought many smiles to all of us.”

Commenting on the success of our care home work, Rob Goodman, managing director of 91ÑÇÉ«´«Ã½, says, “Showplace feels tremendously proud to deploy its premium infrastructure for such an essential purpose. Allowing care homes to safely facilitate visits between residents and families, will have enormous benefits for everybody’s health, happiness and wellbeing.”

91ÑÇÉ«´«Ã½ provides temporary buildings and mobile exhibition trailers to a wide range of sectors. Our solid sided temporary marquees and tents can be erected in a variety of sizes, shapes and configurations and are available for hire from one month up to two years. They are the perfect solution for providing Covid secure visiting facilities to allow residents to meet with their loved ones. The vast choice of themed immersive interiors provide a tranquil meeting environment. Whether you opt for a forest or beach scene, or boats on the water as Swimbridge House has done, our visitor rooms are much more than a clinical weatherproof shelter.

Showplace’s temporary structures can be rapidly deployed on both hard ground (eg. carparks) or on grass and turfed areas, taking only one day to build. Extra space resource is achievable quickly and efficiently, reducing disruption for both staff and residents. All materials within our structures comply with strict fire retardancy requirements and can provide a safe, hygienic, enclosed facility which completely separates visitors from residents while allowing meaningful social interaction.

91ÑÇÉ«´«Ã½ can also provide a fleet of mobile trailers, ranging from 4m to 12m in size, which are perfect for mobile visitor rooms. There are a number of benefits to using a trailer:

  • Their mobility makes them particularly useful for reaching more remote geographical areas
  • They can serve multiple sites; perfect for organisations operating care homes across multiple sites
  • There is no requirement for planning permission for long term installations
  • They are economical with space, with some as small as a car park bay.

With the challenges that care homes are facing to allow external guests the opportunity to visit residents, we have several solutions that are hugely beneficial for this sector in the current climate. We are offering hire options that are available on a monthly basis (typically 3 – 6 month periods) as well as purchase options if preferred.
